Matt Davis - London 1970 Working in improvised and experimental music since 1994 - using trumpet and field recordings. Has also directed ‘Field’ - a live art/performance project, operating since 2003. His work investigates the question of sound (noise) as music; music as a tool for improvisation; improvisation as a tool for the creation of a space of encounter, not as a projection of a concept, but a space (place) which can be entered conceptually, experientially or otherwise.
Thaniel Ion Lee - What Do You Call? - MP3 - (2008)
“My work is about the inner workings of my mind whether that be my inner struggle as a person with a disability or my surreal dreams”. Thaniel Ion Lee (US)
Sound Installations - Friday 1430-1730
The following posts are to provide you with a little information on the sound installations during Resound.
Wasteland PRESENTED by Uta Baldauf and Christy O’Donnell
Live radio performance - Sat 12.00-13.00 A project which has been supported by Stroud Valley Artspace, CAZ project space, Alias, The Exchange, Penzance and Soundart Radio. Wasteland exists and can be presented in two main forms – a performance installation and radio show . A transient project which can respond to and be influenced by site and social contexts, it brings together a shared love and interest for contemporary art, philosphy and experimental radio and the fusion between them. Within the Wasteland radio programme the boundaries are set by the duration of the show but its philosophy is to be as free, changeable and as spontaneous as possible. By a lack of structure a situation is created in a space which can liberate beyond stereotypical expectations. Noise, Voices, Chaos, Pictures, Books, Records, Radios, Movement, Sound, Space, Void, Possibilety, Unknown Wasteland always is an experiment, don’t expect anything but keep an eye out and an ear out.
Call for car users
If you are coming to the Resound Falmouth 2011 festival and have a car with a cd/mp3 player, we need you! On Sunday 27th March, at 11.00 am we are hoping to organise a convoy of cars playing the Resound drone piece (Un) Pleasant Over Drones. The plan is to meet on Commercial Road ,Penryn, outside Rhollis/Robotmother’s storage units (here) at 11.00. We will then play the drone from all possible sound systems and if anyone wants to, form a slow procession around …….. Come and help create a unique audio work. Think of the documentation! If you are interested, let us know so we can make enough drone cd’s, or downoad it from the site (here) or just turn up on the day.

(Un) Pleasant Over Drones
In November 2010 we put out a call for 60 second drones to form part of a continuous work entitled (Un) Pleasant Over Drones. Sixty six individuals or artists groups donated work and the resulting drone piece is now available for download. We have also put up the label and cd cover, listing all the participants and contextualising the work with the original call text. We are giving away a cdr of the piece to all visitors to the Resound event this year. In addition, we are organising a mass performance of the piece from car stereos on the morning of the last day of the festival, culminating with a drive past finale. We hope to document as much as possible of this performance and will put it on line as soon as we can. I would like to thank all of you for your generous input and faith in the project. Simon Drinkwater
“A local musician with an esoteric ear. For the past few years, has been running sonwriters’ open mic’s around falmouth and penryn where he hopes to encourage as much diversity as can be mustered”.
Open your ears
“Open your ears” is presented by five artists from four different disciplines, between them covering sound art; phonography; choreography; performance art; sculpture; and installation. They all currently study at Dartington College of Arts. Jack Harris is interested in exploring and sharing the sounds of the world. Isabella Shirly-Miller strives to gain a bodily and aural awareness of her surroundings. Sebastian Hau-Walker is interested in themes of migration and relocation. Hannah Dean is an accordionist and sonic artist. Paul White likes tape, blue lights, small crosses, noise, and pretty melodies. What: One room with five different pieces, all three hours in length, happening simultaneously, drawing on themes of hidden timbre; mimetic cuisine; environmental migration; and fishing with microphones….
Dominic Allen
Dom Allen creates electro-mechanical sonic assemblages out of discarded consumer products. he is fascinated by obsolete technology and music boxes. Dom creates modular self playing devices, using modified and hand made audio electronics and electro-mechanically activated acoustic instruments. For this installation/performance, acoustic instruments are reconfigured into self playing musical machines that are responsive to their environments (light, sound and movement). They are gradually evolving into theatrical improvising orchestra of robots that create music from complex, non-linear and unpredictable patterns based on closed feed back loops.
The Old Grist Mill - Tresooth Ln, Penryn, Cornwall TR10 8DL - 11AM Friday
“The workshop will be a hands-on introduction to mechanical and electronic hardware hacking techniques (circuit bending), which can be used to add new sounds and functions to existing devices. There will be a short demonstration and explanation and then participants will be helped to modify a range of musical toys. Participants will also be invited to perform en mass as part of Sunday’s Conceptual Open Mic Event (details to follow). The modified machines can be taken away for a donation. |
